TL-HAS + Front Camber Plates: Closer to a GT3 in the only the best ways

While we'll shout from the hill tops that we love our 992 Carrera T and that is it all the 911 anyone ever needs, we admit there are some minor short-comings.

While more of the automotive media agrees with us that the Carrera T is the best 911 and/or you don't need a GT3, one of the biggest things you'll read in those media reviews is how much different and more aggressively the GT3 turns in. It does this with a sharpness a Carrera simply doesn’t have from the factory. We experienced this on our Carrera T after coaching a GT3 owner at a track event and then getting back into the Carrera, the front end was just un-matched in the GT3, but it doesn't have to be this way.

Carrera owners looking for more immediate front-end response, less rubbery delay and more confidence the moment the wheel is turned do have options. One of the best is the combo pack from Thunder Lane; Monoball Camber Plates and the Height-Adjustable Spring (HAS) Kit. Both built specifically for Carrera applications—Base, T, S, 4S, GTS, and similar variants on OEM-style mounts.  This is what we installed on our 992 T

Why these two belong together

Lowering a Carrera changes more than the look. It changes spring travel, load transfer, and how the tire meets the road. A height-adjustable spring kit solves ride height and cross-weight. Camber plates solve front-end geometry once the car is sitting where you want it.

The end result is a car that drives great in all conditions and gives you the ability to tune it for exactly what the car is used for, whatever that use might be,

You get a lower, better-balanced Carrera that still rides like a Porsche—just sharper, more planted, and more intentional.

You’re not turning a Carrera into a GT3, and chances are that if you wanted the stiffness/harshness of a GT3 you'd have bought one. However, this combo closes a significant gap where it matters most: turn-in bite and front-end clarity, without sacrificing the livability of a Carrera.

The monoball plates add camber and therefore a lot more turn-in bite and sharpness. The TL-HAS drops the center of gravity and lets you corner-balance the car, tailoring the setup on track (or wherever you drive!). Together, they help a Carrera point with more urgency and feel more connected—closer to the GT3 character owners notice the first time they drive one back-to-back.

Let's go into detail on how these work individually

What the TL-HAS brings

The TL-HAS is a spring kit, and allows you to adjust ride-height in the way a true coilover setup would, but it retains your factory (or factory-sized) dampers so you get to keep PASM  or Sport-PASM (SPASM) electronic damping and the driver aids tied to it stay fully active. No coding, no warning lights from removing adaptive dampers, no giving up the compliance that makes a modern Carrera usable every day.

Key points:

  • Front lowering 15–35mm (0.6–1.4 in)
  • Rear lowering 20–40mm (0.8–1.6 in)
  • Independent front and rear adjustment for stance, rake, and corner-balancing
  • Linear and helper springs with tailored travel for consistent handling and daily comfort
  • Fits Porsche 911 991 and 992 Carrera applications, 2WD and 4WD (excluding 2024+ GTS)

Helper springs are the quieter hero here. Versus a single progressive spring, they help keep more consistent behavior on the street and at the limit on track, while still being comfortable for daily driving. This is typically a more expensive option to produce vs linear springs and that's why many HAS kits use linear springs, they allow for a comfortable ride without needing 2 separate springs. However the trade off is that throughout the compression range the rate changes and this can cause unwanted results when driving spiritedly on the street or on track. The solution of helpers with linear springs keeps good ride quality but is predictable always, however it's more expensive to produce. We like the Thunder Lane kit because it's priced actually cheaper than some other kits because TL has lower overhead as a smaller company.

Monoball Camber Plates to complete the package

The front camber plates are built for Carrera owners who want more camber range and cleaner suspension feedback without changing ride height.

They are fully compatible with Carrera models (Base, T, S, 4S, GTS, etc.) using OEM-style front mounts—including PSS10, KW (if you want to do full coilovers, or plan to upgrade later) and OEM struts and springs.

What you get:

  • Up to 1.1° added camber via offset mounting holes
  • Large, precision Teflon-lined NMB spherical bearings for reduced camber change under load
  • Quicker steering response and stronger suspension feedback
  • CNC-machined 6061-T6 billet housings matched to the factory mounting surface
  • Bearing positively clamped in the housing (not held by a small retainer ring)
  • Spring load carried by the housing, not the monoball, for longer bearing life
  • Fully serviceable bearing
  • No change to ride height (without the HAS kit above)

We run these on our in-house 992 Carrera T and keep them in stock generally, so there's no wait, unlike some other brands on the market.

On the street: daily and pleasure driving

For a street-driven Carrera, this combo is about polish and confidence, not punishment.

With the TL-HAS, you can close the wheel gap, set a clean rake, and keep usable ground clearance for commute roads, parking ramps, and road trips. And since we put 8k miles in less than a year on our Carrera T, you can be sure we tested this. Because PASM stays active, Normal mode still softens the car for everyday use, and Sport (Plus) is there when you want more body control.

The camber plates tighten the front end without making the car feel harsh for the wrong reasons. Replacing the rubber mount with an NMB monoball reduces allows you to dial in camber and keep it there, gives clearer steering feedback—useful in the mountains, on a favorite B-road, or whenever you tip into a corner on a Sunday drive. That sharper, more immediate turn-in is exactly where a stock Carrera feels soft next to a GT3—and where this setup earns its keep for pleasure driving.

Together on the street, you get:

  • A lower, cleaner stance that still looks intentional rather than slammed
  • Better balance left-to-right after corner-balancing
  • Sharper turn-in and more predictable front grip
  • Factory adaptive damping retained for real daily usability

It remains a car you can live with—just one that feels more sorted, and a step closer to GT3-style response without GT3 street compromises.

On track: where the pairing earns its keep

Track days expose the gap between “lowered” and “set up”, and we see that a lot with HAS kits, especially ones with progressive springs. They ride nice on the street but fall apart on the track, the experience becomes inconsistent and unsatisfying. The pairing of the linear springs with the helper springs really is the MVP here, allowing comfortable ride on the street with very predictable handling on track. It truly is a great combo. We had some say in this decision as we had a set of prototypes and had driven other HAS kits, this is the best in our opinion, you don't have to compromise here.

Ride height and camber are two of the fastest ways to make a Carrera feel more composed at pace. Corner-balancing on the TL-HAS helps even out cross weights so the car does not push or rotate differently left vs right. Independent front/rear height lets you manage rake and load distribution for your tires, driving style, and circuit. Up front, the monoball plates give you the camber range and bearing stiffness to keep the tire flatter on the pavement as load builds. Meaning after install, your favorite alignment shop can set-up the camber, toe, caster, and corner balance the car showcasing a truly night and day difference after the install.

This translates into:

  • More consistent front grip mid-corner
  • More consistent handling characteristics
  • Quicker, more communicative steering
  • Better tire wear patterns when you are working the car hard
  • Better overall feel, not just from the front end, but generally too

The fine print

FAQ

Is this for GT3 or Turbo models?
No. This combination is for Carrera models only.

Will I lose PASM?
No. The TL-HAS retains factory dampers, so PASM stays active.

Do the camber plates lower the car?
No. Ride height stays stock; height comes from the TL-HAS

Will these mods make my Carrera feel like a GT3?

They won’t turn it into a GT3—but stock for stock, a GT3’s turn-in leaves a Carrera feeling soft up front. Lowering, corner-balancing, and a monoball front mount help close that gap in response and clarity. If you want that double-wishbone GT3 turn-in, word is that TL will have a conversion some day.

What else is TL or Spicy Cat cooking up for the 992 Carrera then?

We're working on a way to re-work the rear upright and Lower Control Arms so you can run a 19in rear wheel (uprights currently hit the barrel of 19in wheels, so 20s are required), this will allow for not only a vastly expanded selection of tire options, but also reduced costs for track tires.
And while we're not working on it, we've heard that for those who want to keep PASM/SPASM, DSC is finally launching a controller sone for the Carrera.
Some time after those are a reality, you'll be able to buy a full Carrera package from SCR - Complete with Camber plates, HAS, and LCA/Upright setup, with the 19in wheels, and/or the DSC controller being an optional add-on.
